June 11, 2012 Pentecost – the fifteenth day

The second chapter of Acts reminds us that the new and fragile Christian community was praying together …

And so do we, not only on Pentecost, not only on Sundays, but in all places and times. To guide your prayers we share these words, some from the book Gifts in Open Hands: More Worship Resources for the Global Community (ed Tirabassi and Eddy, The Pilgrim Press, 2011) LINK and some newly written for this blog by some of the one hundred and forty-seven contributors to this collection.

This is our prayer for all —

 Ya Rab Mubarek Kil. … Grant Blessings, O God

Ya Rab mubarek kil
Sinirim genislet
Elin benimle olsun
Beni serden korusun

Ya Rab mubarek kil
Yollarim genislet
Ruhun benimle olsun
Beni serden korusun

Grant blessings, O God.
Expand my limits;
May your hand be with me;
May it shield me from evil.

Grant blessings, O God.
Widen my paths;
May your spirit be with me;
May it shield me from evil.

Turgay Ucal, Turkey

An original hymn by the pastor of the Istanbul Presbyterian Church, it is in the musical tradition of the mystics of Anatolia
