Attend to the Earth — it is Summer in Argentina

We attend to the earth in all seasons but the earth is more invitational in the summer months. I am writing from the northern hemisphere and this reflection on scripture by Gerardo Oberman of Argentina (English translation — Katie Fiegenbaum) reminds me to “Halt” –even now, to learn — even when the frost grips through the ends of my gloves.

Talk with the earth, and she will teach you, Job 12:8a

Halt. Stop yourself and listen.
Observe, appreciate,
breathe, dance, laugh, cry,
enjoy your freedom,
enjoy the beauty
of everything that surrounds  you.

Halt. Stop yourself and look,
savor the simple things.
Fill yourself with the scent of jasmine flowers;
lose yourself in the flight of birds;
dazzle yourself  with the brilliance of the sun;
observe how the clouds change their shapes,
and learn to wait for the rain
without impatience,
for everything comes in its own time.

Halt. Stop yourself and listen.
Guess new sounds,
admire the color of the sky in the afternoon,
and try to count the stars each night…
Looking at the vastness,
meet the place you occupy
in the marvelous mystery of creation.
And do not forget to make time
to talk with mother earth.

Discover all that you have in order to teach…
