Prayer for a time of Typhoon Haiyan

God of Elijah, you are not heard
in typhoons –
but in the still small voices
of those who bring aid.

God of Job,
you speak out of the whirlwind
but your message is
to comfort those
whose lives are in shreds.

God of Paul,
you are with your people
when they jettison so much
they have loved,
break bread in fear and in hope,
and when each seeks to save a neighbor
remembering your promise
that in life and in death
none of these will be lost.

God of Jesus
you say “peace be still”
among your children in the Philippines
and in the places Haiyan
may blow … Vietnam, China …

and call all the world
to hear the winds,
bow our heads and pray. Amen
