I have been on vacation for two week’s without access to Internet. While I was gone John Danner sent these wonderful hymn lyrics that connect to Matthew 10: 40-42 which was the Revised Common Lectionary text for last Sunday. I share them now belatedly, seeing that many of you who read this blog are not on the lectionary and also that the hymn will be well used whenever hospitality Is the worship theme – which will certainly be more often that once in every three years! Thank you to John for this gift.
WHEN ON THE EARTH
Tune: Azmon Text: John H. Danner, 2014
When on the earth our Savior walked,
He called us all to be,
As close as kin, with love for all:
“Treat each one as you’d treat me.”
“The cup you give to one who thirsts,
Is precious in my eyes,
For you can find me in your midst,
In the voice of one who cries.”
“The welcome God extends to you,
Now share with all around,
So ev’ry voice is lifted up,
In a sweet and joyous sound.”
Praise to our God who reigns above,
Yet walks among us here,
And in the stranger can be found,
Never far but always near.
