Before I was 5
I had heard of
Herod and
beheading
A distant
A horror
But holy
story
before breakfast
today
I heard
Of another
not distant
not a story
but an unholy
horror
and grief
unimaginable
with no
ending
This poem was written by Erice Fairbrother of New Zealand in response to the terrible losses of non-combatants by beheading. This simplicity of her words moves me to tears.
Unbelievable, in this day and Age. Disheartening, too.
This is no way to start a new millennium peoples.
Nice poem to expose the horror. Peace, Uncle Tree
Thank you and consider that the poet lives in New Zealand far from those who are directly affected and yet has so much compassion.
