Advent prayers — for God’s older children

Tuesday, December 2, 2014
(for God’s older children, remembered, too, in the Nativity story)

God, we pray for Lizzies and Zachs,
for Gram Anna and old Si,
for all your children
who have lived so many years.

May those who play like children,
because their minds
are full of hide and seek –

be respected
for their intact hearts,
greeted with fluent compassion,
and listened to always
by those bilingual in love.

And bless also those who choose
to simplify their lives –

laughing at cranky knees,
holding up a black gloved hand
to catch the snow,
then opening the fingers wide
into a perfect snow angel.
Amen.

Thanks Maren, I’ll make use of this (though with your permission will alter snow to sun and sand). Pity it didn’t arrive in time for our senior ladies Xmas party. My old Lizzies, Granny Annes and Aunty Annas had a fun time finding out which nativity character name was pinned on their backs with yes/no questions then finding 2 others in the dame category as themselves before competing to see which threesome could keep batting a balloon the longest.

That sounds like a simply wonderful time! Feel free indeed!

  3. This is so lovely. Thanks you, thank you —
