Advent prayer … Frozen

Saturday, December 20 201401_snowflake_1

God, who sits beside every child
watching “Frozen,”
rejoice with those who
recognize themselves as Elsa,
with her gift and disability,
her cause to be mocked and chased
and to run away,
her reason to learn about gloves
and taking them off.

Perhaps someone names it
ADD, ADHD, or bipolar,
vision loss or deafness,
diabetes, Downs, or epilepsy.

God, who sits beside every child
watching “Frozen,”
rejoice with those who
recognize themselves as Anna,
with her fierce support
of sibling or school friend,
on close days and push-aways.

God, who sits beside every child
watching “Frozen,”
remind them to look at Kristoff,
who is a parable on a sled,
(not perfect, but neither is
vine or bread or light).

Someone comes at Christmas
who loves us
no matter what. Amen

I watched ‘Frozen’ with family this Christmas and was reminded that even new traditional tales despise the bad, celebrate the good, reward courage and hold love as the highest value – the Nativity comes in millions of guises.
