Benediction (3rd Sunday in Epiphany, Year B)

God, who sent us an ancestor named “Laughter,”
also called a prophet like Jonah,
and initiated the first discipleship with —
two Thunder-kids,
a redhead with a rooster-complex,
and Andy, best known
for borrowing a kid’s lunch.

(Still God so loved the world enough
not to send a committee.)

May all your tight places be loosened
and your heavy burdens lightened.
May healing come
through both your salt tears and your chuckles
and whether this day
you become a fisher, get fished,
or smell like fish-guts…

Remember — someone behind a door
and your Mama God
is laughing.
(Jonah 3: 1-5, 10; Mark 1: 14-20)

Ooops…still in Epiphany; don’t rush us toward Lent; I’m not ready yet!
