Worthy … of the lemon tree … of the tarantula — Prayer from Argentina

Lemon_tree_002This prayer of Pablo Alaguibe from Argentina comes from my friends at Red Crearte, a blessing source of liturgy. Translation is by Katie Fiegenbaum

Morning Prayer

God,teach me to live this day
worthy of the God of the lemon tree,
of the God of the salty sea,
and the brilliance of the fishes;
of the God of the body,
the uterus, the birth canal …

worthy of the God of the wild boar,
the tarantula, the lightning bolt,
and the fly that is born and dies
on the same day;
of the God of mosquitoes
and the heat and the cold,
of the white-and-greenBrachypelma_smithi_2009_G03
blossomed plum tree.

Teach me to live as you hope,
God of rock cast in the volcanoes,
God of gazes and kisses,
God of loud sobs and of silence.

Help me to be again the smile,
or at least the shock or the guffaw,
of the God of a delicate and gentle whistle;
of the God
who creates worlds with words.

Dios,
enseñame a vivir este día
como es digno del Dios del limonero,
del Dios del mar salado, del brillo de los peces;
del Dios del cuerpo, el útero, el canal de parto.
Como es digno del Dios del jabalí,
de la tarántula, del rayo,
de la mosca que nace y muere el mismo día;
del Dios del silbo delicado y apacible;
del Dios que crea mundos con palabras.
