Lenten reflections on scripture — Isaiah 43

Isaiah 43:19 – 25

I am about to do a new thing
now it springs forth —
in pussywillow and crocus
the returning of geese
snow melt and mud season,

in a lonely someone who wanders
into the sunrise service
some chilly Easter morning.

I am about to do a new thing;
now it springs forth —
in the coiled jumpings
of human beings
living out all the other prophecies
of the several Isaiahs —

share bread with the hungry,
bring the homeless into your house,
release captives,
refuse to break any reeds,
trust a child to play
safely by the rattlesnake den.

I am about to do a new thing
now it springs forth —
in waters tapped
from deep in the earth,
warm, mineral, healing,

also tears that spring to the eyes
of God’s children.

I am about to do a new thing –
it’s about springs …
do you not perceive it?
