Song for Ascension Day

A simple shift in lyrics for Ascension Day

Go Tell It on the Mountain … adapted:

Refrain: Go, tell it on the mountain,
over the hills and everywhere.
Go, tell it on the mountain –
that Jesus Christ is born!
… is raised! … still lives!

The shepherds kept their watching
o’er silent flocks by night,
behold throughout the heavens
there shone a holy light.

Refrain … is born.

And then one grieving morning,
the stone was rolled away –
and Jesus met the women –
that joyous Easter day!

Refrain … is raised.

The work of peace continues …
the cause of justice, too.
And Jesus Christ can change the world
alive through me and you!

Refrain … still lives.

  1. Kim Wells says:

Were the shepherds watching “folks”? Maybe the intention is flocks?

    • Maren says:

I got it fixed on the site version, but the those who read online are stuck with … the wrong word … maybe I was thinking about looking out at my congregation!
