Releyendo el Salmo 47, Re-reading Psalm 47, from Argentina

Gerardo Oberman’s re-reading of the psalm in translation Katie Fiegenbaum and I made a few shifts myself.

Releyendo el Salmo 47

Empecemos a aplaudir,
Cantemos y brindemos,
sonriamos y aplaudamos
porque los poderosos ya no tienen poder,
porque los humildes ya no sufren,
porque la justicia existe,
porque la verdad triunfa…
¡Dios es lo más grande que hay!

Rereading Psalm 47
Begin your clapping,
let us dance and jump for joy!
Do not abandon the celebration
of what deserves to be celebrated.
For God is beyond greatness.
always surprising, ever marvelous.

God overcomes all, rules all.
Those who make fools of us,
those who hurt us and treat us badly,
God makes cringe with shame
and propels them
to recognize their errors.

Like a good mother or a tender father
God cuddles and loves us,
cares for us and provides,
so there can be no emptiness for us.

Take your partner, let the dance continue
do not stifle the celebration!
For God is above greatness
and is above all and everything.

Turn up the music’s volume,
crank the bass, join the party.
Let us sing and toast,
smile and clap
for the powerful have no power,
the humble no longer suffer.

Justice is the festival,
truth prevails…
For God is beyond greatness!
