Bringing in the Sheaves — for Thanksgiving

Sheaves

New words to a very old hymn … especially if you are using Psalm 126 this week.

Sowing starts with children, giving seeds of loving,
Then we reach for weary folk and the ones who grieve.
Let’s put down the “busy,” let’s pick up the holy –
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

(Refrain)Bringing in the sheaves, healing touch received,
some of us believing, some of us bereaved.
Bringing in the sheaves, hope and grace received –
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Sowing comes with singing, sowing comes with silence,
when we face the questions other people leave.
First we hear the scripture, then we share the offering –
God will give the harvest, we bring in the sheaves.

Bringing in the sheaves, every grain retrieved –
some of us — Good Friday, others — Christmas Eve.
Bringing in the sheaves, miracle perceived –
that we come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves!
