Thursday, December 3, 2015 …
From Gerardo Oberman, English translation by Leslie Vogel

Come, we wait for you,
God of the comings that scandalize,
God of the surprising arrivals,
God of the unexpected places
and the inappropriate means.
God who becomes us,
who draws near to our fragilities,
who is willing to live-with
those of us who are clay and dreams,
pain that hurts deeply
and hopes that don’t stop beating.

Come, we await you,
being born where few people seek you,
where only humble people can find you,
embraced by the love of the poor and displaced,
clothed by the sensitivity of the nobodies,
perfumed by the aroma of bread that knows how to be shared
and that celebrates with solidarity,
guest refugee where the only border
is that of your grace without borders.

Come, we await you,
announcing possible salvations,
opening furrows towards peace with justice,
marking the rhythm and pointing to that horizon of light
where weapons are a plow and boys and girls play,
where no one wears boots and there are no tyrants,
where not a single person judges or harms or kills their neighbors,
where joy is real
because there is no oppression and slaveries don’t exist,
where the whole creation reaches its longed-for fullness.

Come, Jesus, we await you.
