Friday, December, 4, 2015 … O antiphon for our waiting

AA022283

Come, O Word,
with your ambiguity of time,
before us and after us …come,
with the slipstream of hope … come,
to the times of our waiting.

Come, O Word,
to the emergency room today.

Come, to the job interview,
the cancelled flight,
and the restaurant table
with two menus,
and only one chair filled.

Come, to the hospice bed,
and all who sit around it,
to the inbox of a high school senior
hoping for early decision,
to the courtroom
before the jury returns.
to the swelling under the heart
of those in their third trimester,
to the phone-watching
of those whose medical tests
are being read,
to the cardoor-listening
late at night
of those who expect
a dear one to return home.

Come, O Word, to our beginnings
and to our endings,
and breathe a sweet blessing
on all the hard pauses
life gives along the way. amen
