Mourning again, Tamir Rice

Go out today and find a child
with a toy in her hands,
with a toy at his feet, in his mouth,
find a child with a rattle
or puzzle, doll, gun, superhero.

It shouldn’t be hard
so soon after Christmas.

Maybe you will see a child you love,
or one you’ve not met,
a kid from the neighborhood,
church, grocery store, NICU.

Seeing this child,
pray for those who love,
and all of those who will never
get a chance to meet
Tamir Rice, child with a toy.
