Prayer for the New Hampshire Primary, February 9, 2016

God, we pray for those who vote today –
a moment of re-evaluation
of what is important for leadership,
what is true in speech,
and which perspective
is most congruent to God’s call
to do justice, love kindness
and walk humbly.

We pray for those who anticipate
that they will not vote,
because they are discouraged
or busy or indifferent —
a moment of re-evaluation
of responsibility and courage.

We pray that all votes be cast
in hope not hatred,
in community with those
who vote for other candidates,
and in an expectation
that each ballot makes a difference.

We pray these things
for each of the candidates —
freedom from financial influence,
civility in words,
concern for God’s children
not only in our country
but throughout the world,
and the willingness
to move on to the next state
newly committed to honesty,
generosity to their opponents,
and care for those with no power.
.
All this we pray in the name of Jesus,
who worked miracles and changed hearts.

  2. I needed this prayer. Thanks so much for sending it. It is a blessing, and also an antidote to so much else that is swirling around.
