Lenten Reflection — Primary-ly silly

February 27, 2016

They play it like that –
Hilary and, well … Jeb, for that matter,
when he was still writing ad copy
to make him sound
like the responsible one,
one who can get something done.

While the Donald and Bernie
push the buttons of those
who want to elect
the prodigal – the wild
and unpredictable
trouble-maker, who appeals
to folks too accustomed
to husks.

It’s not their platforms,
the content of which
should be shaping votes,

but the odd way a parable
that pits renegade
against insider reflects

how something family
knee-jerks
not only communities of faith,
but party politics,
and who gets the fatted calf.
