Prayer for those who weep for Orlando, Florida, June 12, 2016

Blessed are those who mourn
the heart beat of dancing in the joy of June,
the pulse of love of those
far too often attacked,
and these particular fifty
who have come out
and came out on a Saturday night
for Latin music and a drag show
and laughter and friendship.

Blessed are those who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

And blessed are those
who are mourned,
and who will be remembered.

Blessed are those
whose every tear is wiped dry
whose crying and pain
is now no more,
for they are comforted
by God’s gentle fingers,

for they will stand in the pride parade
of the new heaven
to applaud the bright and flamboyant
arrival of an embodied holiness
of the new earth ahead of us all.

(from Matthew 5 and Revelation 21)
