Carol Hallman responds to the Pulse Club Hate Crime

This is Carol Hallman’s response to the tragedy at the Pulse club in Orlando, Florida:

Evil sows its seeds
In hearts conditioneda
By words of hate and division
It has been so since the dawn of time

Dividing people into
“us” and “them”
Into
“acceptable and not acceptable”

And we good Christian’s that we are
Accept this divide
We do not question that
Some are more equal than others
(Some saved and some not)

(That women are less equal than men
That LGBT people are sinners
That other religions are heretical
(Other beliefs too)
That white is superior to black)

Sometimes the hate shouts loudly
And bullets rip
Through bodies and people and lives
And communities and schools
And nightclubs and in the streets

We wring our hands
Not knowing what to do
‘cause it can’t be the guns
(you know we can’t talk about them)

So it must be them
So let’s keep them out
Build a wall
Shut the door
Turn them away

Instead of looking into
Our own hearts
To our own words
Our own actions

If we would look
Into the mirror
We might see

That violence
And hatred
And anger and murder
All begin in the home
With what we see
And with what we are taught.
