This poem was written by by Yosimar, a friend of Larry W. Trent who is an immigration activist. Yosimar does not have the documents that would help him stay in the United States. I am grateful for his courage in sharing his words here with his first name and I mourn the loss by all Americans of those who would shape the future of this country.
Sometimes I just want to go home
wherever that means
I want to go to a place
where I am not constantly reminded that I am not wanted
I want to stop trying to save America from itself
let the poison it was founded upon takeover
I want to say, “ok you win. I’m going back.”
but fuck that for as long as I need
I will continue to shake this cage
pray for waters to fall
and flush their borders
Thanks for sharing.
And thank you for bringing it to my attention.
