After the March

After six days,
God rested
and so invented the sabbath.

After the sea
of pink pussycat hats,
and the sensitive knitting
of alliances
between people united
by being vulnerable,

after the bus rides and songs,
the long planning,
the signs made by children,

after speeches of inspiration,
anger and tears
in small town and large city,
a few failures in amplification,
crowds too large
to actually march anywhere,

after all of this
we sabbath,
reminding ourselves —
God did not invent the vacation.
Tomorrow we return
to creating.portsmouth-suzy-willow-kjellberg
