Confession for the United States based on Matthew 5: 13-16

Confession

We are the tasteless of the earth,
for we have refused the salts and spices
of Somalia and Syria and the Sudan.

We are the dark of the world
for we have blown out candles of longing
lit in Yemen, in Libya,
in Iraq and in Iran.

Forgive us,
for we have allowed our leaders
to become the weavers of baskets
that hide the lamp of freedom,
and extinguish hope
not only in our room,
but the house that is your world. Amen

Assurance of Grace

Let light shine, upturn baskets,
stand against trampling feet,
seek forgiveness of the wanderers of the earth,
discover grace.

That is a very meaningful poem, Maren, and I totally agree with its astute message. Thank you for putting into words what so may feel, but could not express so eloquently.

  2. Maren says:

It must be so terrifying for you as an immigrant and someone who expereinced the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands.

  3. Katherine Mulhern says:

    THANK YOU, Maren!
