Prayer before reading from the letters of Paul

Remind us, O God, as we open this letter
by Paul of Tarsus and Damascus –
that his life proves
the amazing power of change
of mind, conviction, faith, and life,
that he always distinguished
his opinions from God’s word,
that he didn’t mind
being as foolish as a basket case,
and that he wrote letters
because he loved churches so much.

As we share these words,
we lift in intercession those like Paul
who suffer from chronic illness
and celebrate their gifts in our midst. amen.

  1. I have one true friend who is a fellow basket case. She is the ONLY one who knows me well enough to recognize a lapse into depression and cares enough to lift me out. I like your making me aware that Paul is one of us, too!
