Prayer from Brazil as Lent comes to an End

So many thanks to Luiz Carlos Ramos that shares the deepest truth of what being created in the image of God truly means, and what being made a new creation can mean. Thanks to Paulo Gustavo França for the translation from the Portuguese and thanks to Red Crearte for sharing this gift in Portuguese and in the Spanish below. And I am adding now from below in the comments a link to the music — Louis Marcelo Illenseer just composed music for this prayer. You can hear it here: https://soundcloud.com/gerardo-oberman/converte-me-senhor

Change me, God

If my step leads me astray – change me God!
If my faith is weak – change me God!
If my mind is unimaginative – change me God!
If my hands are violent – change me God!
If my eyes are hateful – change me God!
If my tongue is cruel – change me God!
If my intentions are evil – change me God!
If my heart is fearful – change me God!

In the end:
Change me God and I shall be what I really am!

Converte-me, Senhor / Conviérteme, Señor
Se meu passo é errante, – converte-me Senhor!
Se minha fé é débil – converte-me Senhor!
Se minha mente é estéril – converte-me Senhor!
Se minhas mãos são rudes – converte-me Senhor!
Se meus olhos são ferozes – converte-me Senhor!
Se minha língua é cruel – converte-me Senhor!
Se minhas intenções são más – converte-me Senhor!
Se meu coração é fraco – converte-me Senhor!
Ao final:
Converte-me Senhor e serei o que realmente sou!

Si mi paso es errante, conviérteme, Señor
Si mi fe es débil, conviérteme, Señor.
Si mi mente es estéril, conviérteme, Señor.
Si mis manos son rudas, conviérteme, Señor.
Si mis ojos son feroces, conviérteme, Señor.
Si mi lengua es cruel, conviérteme, Señor.
Si mis intenciones son malas, conviérteme, Señor.
Si mi corazón es frágil conviérteme, Señor.
Al final:
Conviérteme, Señor, y seré quien realmente soy.

  1. Louis Marcelo Illenseer just composed music for this prayer. You can hear it here: https://soundcloud.com/gerardo-oberman/converte-me-senhor

  2. I’m reading the title as “A Prayer as Lent Comes to an End” rather than “A Prayer for the Removal of Lent from the Christian Calendar.” I trust that’s what you meant. 😉
