For Monserrat, Domenica, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico

God, we pray for the strength of shelters,
for those who fear the wind blowing,
and the devastation of waters,
for those who seek friends,
for those who grieve.

We pray for wisdom in those who rescue
and we pray for those who do not have time
to worry about the future.

We pray for family and friends
around the world who wait for news,
who sit around televisions
and stare at spaghetti models
that mean homes, lives,
businesses, schools, churches.

We pray for the generosity of strangers.

Keep watch, O God, with these your children,
even in the eye of the storm,
with the eyes of your love. Amen

We thank you God for those whose prayers lift our eyes above our own concerns, important as they might be, to see a world beyond us. May their prayers always open our ears and hearts.
