God, I do not know any Sufi prayers.
I think of them as dancers
and they have reminded me to dance.
I have not listened to these children of yours pray.
Now I have heard them cry,
so I pray in my own stumbling words –
gather them gently
in your grace beyond this life,
wrap the mourners in shreds of memory,
that give some comfort,
and may it be for all of us,
that we turn to everyone’s music,
catch in humble hands everyone’s tears,
learn to pray the world. amen
