Advent — December 4, 2017

(In A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge is taken by the Ghost of Christmas Past to visit himself as an unloved and unwanted child)

Lonely Emmanuel, we pray for children
unwanted, unloved, little cared for –
as infants, children or teens.

We pray for those neglected or abused,
and those who suffer incest.
We pray for those who are shuffled
from place to place,
for those who are bullied.

We pray for those who feel unfriended,
left behind, or unaccepted
in a new blended family, a new school,
a sports team or a drama club.

We pray for those isolated —
transgender, on the spectrum,
too poor, cognitive disability,
juvie record or hungry.

Help them wait, watching out the door
for strangers who will come
with your perfect mysterious gifts,

then hang a star in front of us. amen.
