International Women’s Day – Press for Progress, Mark 8: 11-21

Pharisees were asking Jesus for a sign from heaven,
and Jesus sighed.

It is not about signs given to us.
Rather it is about our saying – “times up,”
with movie stars and campesinas,
and anyone else willing
to bake bread with the yeast of hope,
to make trouble for the powers of hate,

to name this a generation
that does not sit passively
(even with pink hats)
waiting for heaven to come down,

but collects baskets of leftover miracle
and presses it for progress –
now, and for generations yet unborn,
and for a world
that needs us to be the sign-makers
of God’s kindom of love.

Jesus says – do you not yet understand?
