Guest Post, Seed Rev. Obed Vizcaino Nájera of Venezuela

Rev. Obed Juan Vizcaíno Nájera of Maracaibo, Venezuela reflect on John 12: 20-3. The translation is by Katie Fiegenbaum.

Seed

Selfishness kills,
destroys,
those who love themselves
lose themselves and die.

They are sterile,
not able to see
the Other World,
Different and caring,
that others around them
are constructing.

They do not bear fruit,
for they cannot see in their neighbor,
in the weaker and needy,
their brothers and sisters.

Like seeds,
we have to die,
to give life in abundance,
multiplying one by a hundred
and one hundred by a thousand.

It is impossible to live locked
in our self-satisfaction,
complicit and indifferent,
back towards our purpose (destiny?),
to our neighbors.

To serve,
is to take responsibility,
make new commitments,
new struggles each day.

God,
reward who we are
loyal and consistant,
serving and living
in solidarity,
with those who die each day
to resurrect being millions.

Semilla

El egoísmo mata,

destruye,
quienes se aman a si mismo
se pierden y mueren.

Son estériles,
no son capaces de ver
el Mundo Otro,
Distinto y solidario,
que otros y otras a su alrededor
están construyendo.

No dan frutos,
no pueden ver en el prójimo,
en el más débil y necesitado,
a sus hermanos y hermanas.

Como semillas,
tenemos que morir,
para dar vida en abundancia,
multiplicándonos uno por cien
y cien por mil.

Imposible vivir encerrado
en nuestro orgullo,
complicidad e indiferencia,
de espalda a nuestro destino,
a nuestros semejantes.

Servir,
es tomar responsabilidades,
asumir nuevos compromisos,
nuevas luchas cada día.

Dios,
premia a quienes somos
fieles y consecuentes,
sirviendo y viviendo
en solidaridad,
a quienes morimos cada día
para resucitar siendo millones.
