Prayer for Hurricane Michael

Keep alert, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13

God, to forecasters and first responders
across the panhandle,
the Big Bend, the west coast —
give wisdom.

to restaurant owners
with boards on their windows —
give confidence,
to gas station attendants with long lines —
undaunted friendliness,
to those who keep grocery stores open —
peace for their own worries,
to those in emergency rooms –
calm presence with skillful hands.

God, as you ride in the back seat
of cars headed to Alabama,
help parents explain hurricane
to their children.

God, who teaches us to prepare
and care for those who have not done so,
be with all in Florida now
and then stay through wind and rain.

Give to the stranded — patience,
to the caregivers – stamina,
to the elderly
who have seen many storms —
the help they need.

Turn neighbors into saints.
Comfort those who fear.

Make the time of Michael
be known as the time we loved one another.
Amen

Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14
