An argument with Luke 11: 11-13

Jesus was confused.
I hesitate to imply Jesus was wrong,
but perhaps he failed
the heavenly class in logic

so that he suggested
that God gives good things,
and used as proof
everyone standing around
and listening

because nobody
would give snakes and scorpions,
perfectly good creatures but deadly,
to children
who ask for eggs or fish.

Nobody.

But, in detention centers
across the US southern border,
the children’s menu consists of
poison for breakfast
and deadly for dinner,

and there are people
who consider themselves Christian,
maybe even parents —

who think that
is the godly thing to do.
