Prayer for Ukraine

God of Peace
We open our hearts
And our spirits
To your presence
Here

God of Peace
We gather tonight
To lift up the children
Who are in the paths
Of tanks and mortar fire
And bombs

God of Peace
We gather tonight
To lift up the mothers
And fathers
Who were making dinner
Going to work
Driving children
To school and practice
And now are somewhere
Far from home forced
To flee by an invading army

God of Peace
We gather tonight
To lift up the soldiers
Who have taken
Up arms reluctantly
But resolutely to
Protect their homes
And homeland

God of Peace
We gather tonight
to pray for hardened
Hearts to be softened
For peace
To enter and compassion
To fill

God of Peace
We gather tonight
To pray for leaders
Making hard decisions
In a time of discord

God of Peace
We gather tonight
To pray for invading
Armies’
Men and women
Who have families
That love them and are afraid
For them

God of Peace
We gather tonight
To pray for peace
Within and without
For ourselves and our nation
As well as where
War and violence abound

God of Peace
We pray
Peace breaks
Forth and love
Finds a way through
The darkness of
This day

In the Darkness

In the safety
Of the darkness
In the moistness
Of the earth
Seeds begin
Their journey

Protected
Nurtured
Cared for
In strength
Confidence
And love

In the ashes
Of the palms
In the dirt
Of the earth
In the rich
Dark soil

During these
40 days
We wait
And grow

Warmed by
Sun fed by
Word
Bread and wine

Slowly we
Emerge
Ready to
Love
Be loved
Live love

And abide with
One who
Is LOVE incarnate
