Prayer for places of hospitality

God of open arms, sheltering wings,
who wakes to every knocking on the door,
we give thanks for the welcome
to three and a half million
refugees from Ukraine,

in Poland, Romania, Hungary,
and small Moldova, where
one in every twenty-five
people living now
has fled from the invasion,

for they heard “come unto me
all who labor and are heavy laden”
not just as the promise
of spiritual respite,
but as their own call to be
the Body of Christ, house of God.

May the blessing they give be returned,
a good measure, pressed down,
shaken together, running over,
laid into into their laps.

And may all nations, all people,
who help in any way in these days
find the blessing they give
grow and bloom in their own lives,
like a sunflower open. amen

  1. Laurie Rowan says:

What a beautiful call to be the Body of Christ for those in need, fleeing war. How wonderful that people in the surrounding nations have opened their hearts and homes to those fleeing death and destruction. Thank you, Maren!.

  2. Maren says:

It is changing their lives, which is so much more than anything we can do.

  3. Amen. Very beautiful.
