It needs to be said …

We have just finished Trinity Sunday,
our celebration of God’s multiple personality order,
even as Genesis One shows us
some holy days of OCD,
words divinely given to prophets
demonstrate how painful anxiety can be,
and symptoms of depression
named in the gospel story of Gethsemane
are not just in the sleepers,
but also in the One who stayed awake.

We are in the Image of God.
All of us,
including so many
facing each morning with courage.
We are in the Image of God.
All of us,

and the truth continues to be
that people who live with mental illness
are more likely to become victims
than shooters,

and the most dangerous
of psychological abnormalities
(I call survivors of sexual violence to testify)

is always shift-the-blame disorder.
