What “that” verse really means this morning

Sometimes it is not theologically
profound, preferential,
universal or vague.
Sometimes it is not anything like
a T-shirt, a key-ring,
or a bumper sticker.
Sometimes it refuses to be twisted
into some kind of condition
for membership.

It is just the holy echo
we are blessed enough to overhear
of a terrible grief
and a particular tenderness —

“For God so loved the Ukraine …

    Amen and amen again. I have a student in my Nashua Connections class from the Ukraine and her heart is breaking.
