Riff on Jeremiah 33

The days are surely coming, says God, when I’ll fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David; to spread justice and righteousness in the land. Jeremiah 33

The days are surely coming,”
when God will fulfill the promise
made to all the houses of all the faiths
of all the peoples,
for they are chosen of God,

And then they will spring up —
like the Canyon Laurel,
that grows around and through rock,
and where there are no distinctions
between trunk and branch,
no one is “only” grafted,
and roots are honored.

Going out on a limb
for justice and right living
is how we spring up for love.

  1. I read this several times. It captured me with its beautiful image of God’s people struggling through rock and root, entwined together, growing together, standing for the justice ordained by their creator. You have such a gift for capturing imagery.

Thank you … hopefully it will not stick out like a sour thumb in my sermon!
